Cameron Laird - Picture Perfect Australia
Australiamovie.net would like to clue admirers of this production in on the works of photographer Cameron Laird (pictured left in Bowen with Nicole Kidman). You may have noticed many gorgeous new images frequently appearing on this site. These are largely courtesy to the generous supply and efforts of the seasoned Townsville, Queensland photographer. Cameron has been working in the photography industry for fifteen years and in 2007 as part of his employ for The Courier-Mail’s North Queensland bureau he has been lucky enough to be on the spot for exclusive shots featuring the cast and crew of Australia. You may have already seen his images in various newspapers and other publications.

Yesterday, Hugh Jackman was pictured looking hot and sweaty as he filmed a brawl sequence for Australia. Just Jared also posted images from the Bowen set, including pictures from a scene where the drover is seen returning some of Lady Ashley’s luggage. It would appear that the opening scenes of Australia will feature Lady Ashley encountering the drover after he crashes through a window of the Territory Hotel in Darwin and knocks over her luggage! They then meet for the very first time when he returns items of her luggage, including her bra! Check out Just Jared for more photos from the set.
The ‘look’ of Hugh Jackman’s drover character has now been revealed! We have previously seen him dressed in a white tuxedo, but we think the drover is bound to look a lot rougher for most of the movie, and the image seen here is proof of that! Nicole Kidman arrived in town yesterday with husband, Keith Urban. It has been revealed that Jackman’s character is a “hard-working, hard-drinking, brawling ringer”, and that he and Lady Ashley will meet for the first time at the Territory Hotel. The stars were greeted today with an Aboriginal “welcome to country” ceremony, and it was here that Luhrmann said of the production, “We have a big creative challenge ahead. But we can all see and feel how this is a really pristine spot, and cinema needs magic, and this place feels very magical to us.”
It has been revealed that the scenes shot at Strickland House this week will be involved a sequence depicting the bombing of Darwin. In the final stages of the shoot, a scene was shot to simulate the bombing of Darwin’s Government House. Luhrmann used dummies to stand in for what we assume will be numerous casualties! It has also been confirmed that filming did take place at Camelot during the Sydney shoot. Back in December 2006, Kidman, Jackman and Luhrmann were pictured rehearsing there, but it was unconfirmed if Camelot would feature in the film itself. We now know that filming took place at the stables, and it has been speculated that the Just Jared picture seen here of Kidman in riding gear was taken at Camelot.
