Nicole Kidman has revealed that Australia is a movie that she has “dreamed of making” since she was a child. She told People News, “It’s just extraordinary in epic-ness. This is the kind of film that I dreamt of making as a little girl. For ‘Moulin Rouge’ we did everything in the studio but for this we’ve been on location the entire time - in Darwin, up in Queensland and then camping out in tents in the middle of the desert.”
Kidman also said that working without a green screen was one of the highlights of working on the film, “Green screen is definitely not my favourite thing. I became an actor because I wanted to act with other actors. That’s been the beauty of Baz’s film - you are on location breathing the air, feeling the impact of the sunsets.”
Kidman’s co-star, Eddie Baroo, has also been chatting about how much he has enjoyed being part of Australia, and has expressed his admiration for his co-stars, “They’re brilliant. I’m not just saying that, they’re brilliant. It’s probably the worst-kept secret that Hugh’s one of the best blokes running around the world. I wish I could tell you why they’re unreal. I tell ya what, when the film gets released and I’m able to talk more, I’ll be able to tell you about the first day I met Hugh. Very, very funny, very funny.”
Eddie Baroo was not allowed to discuss his role in the movie, but we remember him from an image posted right here on this site…
This image is already featured in our gallery and shows Eddie Baroo grappling with the Drover. It would appear that he is apparently about to throw the Drover out of a window, and it could be that Baroo will feature in the scene where the Drover first meets Lady Ashley after a brawl in a Darwin pub. Could australiamovie.net be correct in our assumption? We will have to wait and see!

Stocktake. It’s the end of November, the country of Australia is under new leadership, David Wenham was seen out and about assisting the Labor party on voting day, Hugh Jackman has been keeping that physique of his in tip top condition by frequenting Sydney’s Bondi Beach and Nicole Kidman has been jetting between countries to promote forthcoming films The Golden Compass and Margot At The Wedding. How do we know all of this? The wonderous australiamovie.net forum of course!
So, has filming finished? The answer is no! It’s a hard question to answer, what with the last leg of filming taking place behind locked doors at Sydney’s Fox Studios, however in a recent radio interview with Ryan Seacrest on KIIS FM Nicole has revealed a wrap date for Australia! You can download the interview in our multimeda section.
So, um, I’ve been making a film in Australia for the last nine months and we finish on the 21st of December, so, I can’t wait [for the time off].
With 20th Century Fox & Hugh Jackman’s pending film, Wolverine, barking at their heels we’re pretty sure the Bazmark team will stick to this date. …but don’t quote us on that!

The end of November is looming and all things going according to schedule the filming of Australia should wrap and head into post-production very soon!
In the meantime we’ll take any piece of news we can get. Thankfully with Nicole Kidman promoting her forthcoming film, Margot At The Wedding, there has been interest from journalists regarding the production of Australia, so we’ve been able to hear a bit of info here and there. Hopefully this will continue over the next…year!
Comingsoon.net spoke with Nicole and asked what it was like working in the outback with Baz Luhrmann,
I’m very happy to be in Australia actually. I’ve been there since April making this film and it’s my dream of making this film since I was a little girl and I hope it lives up to my expectations because I wanted to make a film that’s deeply romantic. It’s a got a magical quality to it, but still it’s a sweeping drama filled with some comedy and we can pull that off, I’d be very, very pleased.
It’s also nice to stand by a director you’ve worked with before and say, “I’m right here next to you again. Let’s go. Let’s try to do something unusual and special.” Who knows? Next year, you’ll be sitting here and saying it didn’t work. We’re certainly working hard towards putting something magical on screen.

Although filming of Australia is reportedly due to continue until the end of the month, news about the project has become rather quiet in recent weeks, with production taking place behind the closed doors of Fox Studios in Sydney. However, at a screening of one of her new movies last night, Nicole Kidman was asked about Australia and revealed, “I’ve been doing most of my own horse-riding. Just recently we ran with over 1,500 wild horses, and we were riding with them. And that’s pretty hair-raising.” When asked if she was worried about falling, she said, “I just didn’t think about it. I feel confident on a horse.”
Although Australia news currently remains quiet, our Australia discussion board is always active. Feel free to visit and take part in the ongoing discussions about the movie.

Both Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman are racking up the frequent flyer miles as they fulfill obligations in America in between filming commitments on the set of Australia.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Kidman and Jackman are working full-time at Fox Studios in Moore Park to complete filming. Both are expected to remain in Sydney until the end of next November, when filming is scheduled to finish. Despite industry speculation that Luhrmann was running behind schedule and beyond budget on his spectacular film, reports from the set suggest otherwise. “The studio is happy,” one insider said, adding the Hollywood heavyweights behind the film had been pleased with the progress of the movie.
In other news, add Aaron Pedersen to the growing cast list for Australia. Though the local identity’s latest role is on tv police drama City Homicide during the show’s downtime he has remained in Sydney after landing a role in the star-studded film.

Last month, Nicole Kidman was interviewed by The Kimberley Echo about her impressions of Kununurra. Kidman was full of praise for the region.
“This is a magnificent part of Australia. Like most people growing up in the cities on the east coast, I knew the Kimberley region was big and impressive, but until I got here and started to experience it I really didn’t understand the scale and wonder of it all. I feel privileged to be here working on the film ‘Australia’, because many of our scenes have been shot in the early morning or at dusk when the colours are so dramatic. It’s breathtakingly beautiful and I’ll remember its glory forever. The sunrises and sunsets are a spiritual experience and I am in love with boab trees now.”
Kidman also said that her role as Lady Sarah Ashley was a challenging one, “Yes it is a challenging role. As well as wearing the constricting costumes of the period, I have to maintain an English accent, do a lot of horse riding and have had to learn to muster cattle. But it has all been an adventure which I will always remember and which is ultimately what I am seeking from my life - adventure and exploration of this beautiful world.”

While filming in Kununurra in early September 2007, the two leading stars of Australia attended the inaugral NAIDOC Ball, which stunned the locals and made the event one of the most high profile gatherings of the year. Nicole Kidman and husband Keith Urban were the first to arrive, followed by Hugh Jackman and Deborra Lee-Furness (pictured with local resident Kenneth Torres). “It started off fairly low-key but suddenly everyone started whispering and pointing at the door and people realised Nicole was in the room,” said local resident Nathen Dyer. “At first, they weren’t sure whether to go up to them but when a few people introduced themselves, everyone rushed over hoping to shake hands.”
