FilmInk, Dusty Drover On The November Cover

The November issue of Australian magazine, FilmInk, features a four pages spread with our very own Drover, Hugh Jackman, on the cover.

“[Baz] is really something else. …He pushes you, and give syou every opportunity in terms of research. He has such complete belief in what he’s doing, So does Catherine Martin; I can’t really see Baz without Catherine – they’re so intertwined. You’d jump off the cliff if they asked you! They’re so committed and it really bings out the best in everyone around them.”

And what of the character Hugh will be playing? “There are many similarities between a cowby in a western and a drover in Australia – there’s a toughness there, and they both say very little, even though everything is going on inside -but there’s a distinctly different kind of larrikinism to the Australian version of the cowboy. We tried to get a little of that in there too”

Pick up the issue at news stands now, or view and read the interview, with some extra plot insight, via the scan in our extensive gallery.

Exclusive Australia Content from Big Pond

BigPond telecommunications company in Australia were the first in the world to release the teaser trailer of Australia. Now they’re back with a whole sub site dedicated to the film and some excellent content!

The sub site features cast and crew information; we’re given the names of characters played by some supporting actors in the film. Visitors can download wallpapers, browse an image gallery or win a trip to Wrotham Park Lodge located in outback Queensland.

However most pleasing to the modern day fan is a series of exclusive videos. Sure some of the content is taken from the pre-existing Apple podcasts, but they have so much more. A five video feature includes interviews with Luhrmann, Kidman, and Jackman. We’re given a multitude of new images, each more exciting than the next. One video in particular is very well put together and details Australia’s history in dealing with some real issues in the film such as World War II and The Stolen Generation.

At this stage it appears access to the videos is limited to those living in Australia. However australiamovie.net has been able to make a substantial amount of screencaps so that our international visitors may share the excitement.

Elle Magazine – The Escape Artist

The November 2008 edition of Elle Magazine features a stylish looking Nicole Kidman on their cover, with a substantial interview and array of glamour shots within.

The accompanying interview takes place in Nicole’s adopted hometown of Tennessee. “There’s something to be said for going back to a simple form of living—nature and family. There’s something very…there’s safety in that.” Which is what her character in this month’s romantic epic Australia comes to realize. “She’s so tightly wound and incapable,” Kidman says. “And she’s never had love. But she learns to believe and trust through the nature of the landscape and the adventure of what’s happening to her, and the country wears her down and takes away the facade. And she’s finally able to become a living, breathing, fully evolved person. She becomes of the earth.”

Shot over the course of nine months, the film is ultimately a love triangle, though not one we’ve come to expect.

You Don’t Know Jack…man

The November edition of US publication Men’s Journal, features a Drover-esque Hugh Jackman on their cover and a great five page spread with a brand new interview.

The laid back article takes place in Sydney, Australia aboard a harbour cruise with wife Deborra-Lee Furness and children Ava and Oscar in toe, providing an entertaining and, at times, personal read.

“When the head of the studio saw Australia, he said, ‘Mate, when your grandkids ask your kids what you did, this is the movie they’ll put in.’ “

“He brings enormous Aussie charm to the role and this laid-back swagger, which I think hasn’t been seen onscreen for a long time,” gushes Kidman. “I think Baz brought something very different out of Hugh.”

Full Length Australia Trailer Online

After months of only having our small teasers to watch, 20th Century Fox have finally released the full length trailer for Australia. The delay in releasing the trailer may have been a smart tactical move, as many of the other Oscar contenders released theirs almost simultaneously a few weeks ago; this way the spotlight is on Australia. Running at 2 minutes, it largely focuses on the developing relationship between The Drover and Lady Sarah Ashley. With a fantastic score, the trailer quickly switches gears between romance and tragedy, showing some startling scenes depicting the bombing of Darwin in World War II.

You can stream the video here at ninemsn, or download it from our media section.

110 screencaps are available in our gallery, with more feedback, media and discussion at our forum!

This month, the magazine Australian Women’s Weekly turns a whopping 75 years old! To celebrate this occasion in style, who more iconic and stylish than Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman could grace this special cover?

Taken from the editor’s letter, “It’s no surprise that we are all fascinated by our heritage – it makes us who we are and shapes our lives. As our covergirl, Nicole Kidman, says in her birthday message, The Weekly’s heritage is “comforting”. We are extremely proud that Nicole and Hugh Jackman – two of Australia’s most iconic stars – agreed to be on the cover of our historic birthday issue and chose to talk for the first time to The Weekly about their roles in Baz Luhrmann’s highly anticipated film ‘Australia’.
