Alternate Cut - Australia Trailer #2

A second edit of the official trailer has surfaced and australiamovie.net has the goods for you to download! This alternate cut has less of a country & western feel, with more of a focus on the love story between the Drover and Lady Sarah Ashley.

Additionally there has been a buzz amongst cinema goers, particularly those attending screenings of Indianna Jones IV. “What does that have to do with Australia”, I hear you ask? The answer is not in the film itself, rather the trailers accompanying the latest Hollywood blockbuster. Taking pride of place and being screened to thousands of potential viewers is yet another alternate cut of the Australia trailer, marketed to the locals. This version is yet to hit the net, but it sure is a beauty, particularly on the big screen.

In the meantime, for the second edit, head over to our media page and download the latest trailer and check out the steamy new scenes and view the screencaps in the gallery.

Set To Screen Podcast #4 - Costume Design

Fans of the Australia production are getting spoiled in the last few weeks, our most recent treat being Podcast #4 of the Apple Set To Screen Series. This time designer Catherine Martin takes us behind the scenes of the film’s costume design.

The podcast reveals the effort and passion placed in the work of everyone involved in the film. Right down to the tiniest details CM details how she and her team design, create and rent costumes to get that perfect mix of believeable outfitting for the principle actors and hundreds of extras. During the footage it is revealed that between 1,800 - 2,000 costumes were used for this feature film, and we thought the 480 for Moulin Rouge! was extreme!

As per usual, this latest podcast comes with its own educational unit and competition. The deadline for the competition to design an outfit for Lady Sarah Ashley is June 18, 2008. To download the podcast and for more details visit the apple set to screen site.

Visit our gallery for over 130 screencaps from the podcast.

Happy Anniversary to australiamovie.net!

On November 23rd 2006 australiamovie.net opened its cyber-doors to the public. It was also on this day that Baz Luhrmann revealed the title of his next feature film, ‘Australia’.

In that time we’ve had over 60,000 visitors through the front door, have built up a successful and active forum, live journal, have a 326 image gallery, 21 videos, 14 pieces of audio and 2 wallpapers! Phew! *wipes brow*

It just goes to show that time flys when you’re having fun. Hopefully that’s the case with the next year as we’ll reportedly be waiting until at least November 2008 to see the finished product, Australia.

Further Delays on the Set of Australia?

The recent Horse Influenza within Australia [info] may have caused further delays in the shooting of Australia. For several days the transportation of horses has been prohibited, preventing movement of the movie’s animal stars from their holding areas to the shooting locations. However, as of Wednesday the ban has been lifted in Western Australia so hopefully things will continue to run smoothly.

On the lighter side of things, The Sun reports, that the generosity of Nicole Kidman has been at work on the set of Australia. She’s decided to pick up the tab on the coffee cart serving hot drinks to the 200-strong cast and crew each day. However this is no cheap round of drinks by any means. Often, set catering is poor but this cart served stunningly good coffee, hot chocolate and iced coffee — all at $3.50AU a cup. On just one day last week more than 1,000 cups were served, costing near $4,000 for the day. Last week’s bill was apparently approximately $17,000! The Sun reports they’ve now decided that in true Aussie fashion the next round will be Hugh Jackman’s shout. Hear Nicole talk about the coffee crew and more by visiting our multimedia section.

+ We’ve added a new video from the top end (Darwin) about Hugh Jackman, special effects and crocodiles.
+ Plus a new audio interview with Nicole Kidman on the way to the set in Kununurra.
